Our Story

Igrika is an old Georgian name for April, and that’s when our story began…

We were always attracted by the mysterious world, full of symbolism, that was conceived by the people's totemic thinking in the days long past. Despite their age, we think that these forms are also oddly modern, as they also bear the meaning that we assign to them, along with their original meaning.

The stories that can be read on stone carvings or dusty old tomes, that can be heard on festivals or bedtime stories, are the sincerest tales about us, as a nation. Thus, we became explorers by heart, and, imagine that, we are going alongside you on this adventure in this mystic world. And we share our discoveries with you wholeheartedly, as we think, that if you’ll hear about them, you too shall become the keeper of these treasures akin to us, bear it with your heart and the

Story will keep narrating through you...

Who we are

Gregor Dalakishvili and Baia Lomsadze, are dedicated to reviving ancient Georgian Symbols and artwork in a modern way, while not stripping them from their meanings.

We are trying to keep the traditional craftsmanship alive by making hand-carved blocks and printing ornaments on fabric. So all our work is handmade and unique, each having its particular backstory.

“Igrika” is an old Georgian name for the month of April. We decided to name our enterprise after a month, when it all began: When we first met, and then when we founded our company after some years.

How we make it

One of our main values is to create high quality products that is suitable for long term use.

Hand block Printed textile - We wash material and let it dry for a day, on the next day it takes several hours for us to print it by hand carved blocks and then we let it dry for 24h again. We gently iron it to fix the paint to fabric and wash it once again. The full process takes from 4 to 5 days.

Making Hand carved Blocks - First of all we search for a symbol and it's meaning, we sketch design by mixing two or more ornaments together. After all we draw the symbol on a special block for printing , carve the shape for several hours and test it.

Making Hand carved Wooden Boards - We make some sketches by mixing two or more ornaments together and draw the symbol on a special wood, we carve the shape for several hours and polish it several times. We use only natural oils to fix the color of the wood.

Making Unique Personalized Library Stamp - The most important part of the process is to know a little bio of the person. As you know we have three writing systems in Georgian language: Asomtavruli, Nuskhuri and Mkhedruli, so we use their beautiful shapes to express the character of the person.
